FSPHP Statement on Racism, Discrimination and Health EquityThe Federation of State Physician Health Programs (FSPHP) stands with all those who mourn and peacefully protest the death of George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks and others who have experienced loss at the hands of racism and police violence. Systemic racism creates economic conditions that put people of color at greater risk for health disparities, including unequal access to care, higher rates of chronic illness, poorer health outcomes and premature death. FSPHP condemns all acts of racism, police brutality and racially motivated violence. FSPHP’s value statement on equality opposes discrimination against physicians and the medical community. We can and will do more. The FSPHP commits to advocate against discrimination in all its forms, within and outside our organization. We will seek opportunities to partner with other national health organizations to demand racial justice and humane treatment for all individuals regardless of age, education, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin or financial status. FSPHP will strive to support and be part of evolving solutions to eliminate racism and systemic inequities in our nation. Chris Bundy, MD, MPH, FASAM |
